PPGI - Galvanized Painted Sheet

This is a process where the sheet surface is coated with acrylic paint types to increase the corrosion resistance of the galvanized sheet and to obtain a more aesthetic appearance.

PPGI is pre-painted galvanised iron, also known as pre-coated steel, coil coated steel, color coated steel etc., typically with a hot dip zinc coated steel substrate.

 

The term is an extension of GI which is a traditional abbreviation for Galvanized Iron. Today the term GI typically refers to essentially pure zinc (>99%) continuously hot dip coated steel, as opposed to batch dip processes. PPGI refers to factory pre-painted zinc coated steel, where the steel is painted before forming, as opposed to post painting which occurs after forming.

 

PPGI are produced on continuous lines which involve a number of surface cleaning and coating steps in a controlled environment and baking at high temperature.

The main advantage of PPGI and PPGL organic coated steel is its consistent quality. The thickness of the paint coating, color consistency and surface texture with a narrow tolerance range are reproducible in subsequent batches. Due to the flexibility of the coil coating process, a wide range of surface finishes is possible, from smooth to grainy finish. They can be made in many colors as well as in the desired gloss range: from matt to high gloss.

 

Organic coated steel consists of a steel support material (cold rolled or with a zinc-based metallic coating), a surface treatment agent layer, an undercoat coating and an outer layer. A temporary protective film is applied upon request.
